Other songs that would fit this text:

Blessed Be Your Name (Matt Redman)

Come Ye Sinners (Matthew Smith/Indelible Grace arrangement)

Before the Throne of God Above

In Christ Alone

•July 6, 2009 • 2 Comments

As I’ve read Sojourn Church’s music ministry blog, I’ve enjoyed and learned from them posting their Sunday setlists at “Sunday Setlists” blog carnival at FredMcKinnon.Com.  So I thought I’d post our church’s setlist at that site as well.

Text: Acts 15:36-16:15

Prelude: Blessed Be Your Name

Opening song: How Great is Our God

Preparatory song: What Joy is Found

Song of Response: Joyful Joyful We Adore Thee (Charlie Hall arrangement w/original words v.1-3)

Closing Song: Stand in Awe

Endurance and Perseverance

On the distinction between and importance of endurance and perseverance , I recommend Jerry Bridges’ talk on the Essentials of Finishing Well

Also, I’m listening to and encouraged by Believin’ Stephen’s Perseverance mix tape

Coram Deo Defined And Miscellaneous Things

•March 2, 2009 • Leave a Comment

To be honest, Coram Deo is a term that I “knew” but never really understood.  In other words, I knew it was a term many reformed types used.  Honestly, I never knew what it meant until reading this post by R.C. Sproul (by way of Tim Challies).

I’m also still on a D.A. Carson “fix.”  I’m still listening to some of his sermons/talks from Gospel Coalition.

Some examples of living out the Gospel humbly, boldly and passionately are these songs from 13 Letters: Romans by Shai Linne and To Live is Christ (summary of Philippians) by Trip Lee.

New Year’s Resolutions: Looking Back and Moving Forward in Future Grace

•December 30, 2008 • Leave a Comment

I’ve definitely got my own New Year’s Resolutions.  But I think about how we can look back at God’s faithfulness.  Then we can look forward with confidence in His Future Grace (big ups to John Piper :) )!

And big “ups” to John Newton in writing this hymn called the Lord Our Salvation and Light.

You can hear my “stirring (or not so stirring)” rendition of this hymn here.

Merry Christmas

Isaiah 9:2 The people who walk in darkness
Will see a great light;
Those who live in a dark land,
The light will shine on them.

Isaiah 9:6 For a child will be born to us, a son will be given to us;
And the government will rest on His shoulders;
And His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Eternal Father, Prince of Peace.

John 1:14 And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we saw His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth.

If you need background music or a soundtrack for this Christmas season, I recommend two albums (one of which is free!):

Savior from Sovereign Grace Music: Original Christ-centered songs from Sovereign Grace Ministries.

Advent Songs from Sojourn Music: Both traditional and original songs from Sojourn Church.

And here’s my rendition of a Charles Wesley hymn called Light of Those Whose Dreary Dwelling

May we all find rest in the merit of the Lord Jesus Christ this season and in every season.

Apple Store Fun

As I listened to my instructor for my first “One-to One” training session at my local Mac Store, I could barely contain my excitement at how Macs allow projects “in our heads” to come to life!

I’ve got 2 projects that I’m currently working on (and in various stages of development):

1.) A record of 8 songs with a band.

2.) A record of assorted songs I’ve written over the last 3-4 years with just me and my acoustic guitar.

Both projects will have both the song files to either stream or download along with a PDF of lyrics and devotional writings.  These hymns have encouraged me to press on over the years.  And I hope these projects encourage you all to press on and to fix your eyes on Jesus.

For now, you can listen to “rough drafts” of songs at Virb.

On a separate note, I highly recommend the album Killing Sin by Timothy Brindle.  Mortification of Sin set to hip hop.

Singing Old New Old Songs

•August 2, 2008 • Leave a Comment

I’m so thankful for technology and recording equipment.  I just put up a couple of songs on Virb that I haven’t played in almost 2 years!  And I’m in the process of recording many more!  Praise God for this technology and for a Gospel to sing!

“Explore the Studio Space” More Cowbell!

•June 25, 2008 • Leave a Comment

Well, I won’t exactly be recording in a studio (or playing a cowbell).  But I will start recording some songs during the month of July.  The recording quality will be better than what I’ve recorded with just my Macbook mic and Garageband.  And this time I’m employing the help of some of my musically talented friends.  So I pray  this collection of songs will be an encouragement to the church and to weary saints.
